A Treasure Trove of Lighting in Hollywood

Inspired by both the classic and modern versions of Peter Pan, event designers Sonia Sharma Events and Revelry Event Design incorporated several key themes starting with a sexy cocktail hour on Skull Island. For our lighting design team, this was the beginning of a treasure trove of lighting in Hollywood beginning with a 12-foot rock skull bar. The lush environment was created using LED drapes and a custom projection on the ceiling, which also was home to 12 giant crystal chandeliers. After cocktails, guests enjoyed a treasure hunt in a decadent room designed around a display of finery for guests to wear and keep. The newly bejeweled guests then made their way into a jaw-dropping dining room. Here was where all that jewelry must have come from! A custom-created ship encrusted with gold was “moored” front and center and also became the band’s performance stage.

In keeping with the pirate theme, several days before the event, Mother Nature had swept in and done some piracy of her own — an intense wind and rain storm had literally stolen the tent where we had been installing this event. With just three days to go, Sonia Sharma Events found a nearby soundstage. Once the new venue was settled, it was all hands on deck. We moved with swashbuckling speed to recreate our lighting design to align with the new parameters of the space. But happy endings are what lighting in Hollywood is all about, and the new venue, being a soundstage, was lighting-ready with truss galore. We were able to creative ceiling projections that added so much to this sparking affair. In addition, we lit the tables — each one a sumptuous creation all its own color palette, and bring top-of-the-line lighting to the entertainment.

As the story goes, Peter Pan wanted to remain in Neverland forever. If it was anything like what this talented team created, it’s no wonder why!
